Winners of the 2021 Hollywood Critics Association Awards

“Promising young woman” snatched the night at the Hollywood Critics Association Awards. In addition to taking home the grand prize, HCA awarded Carey Mulligan for her role as Cassie for revenge and director Emerald Fennell for her script.

Other winners were Delroy Lindo for Best Actor in “Da 5 Bloods” and Yuh-Jung Youn, who won the award for Best Supporting Actress for “Minari”.

“While 2020 has been a year of many difficulties for many around the world, we are forever grateful to filmmakers, storytellers and studios who have done everything they can to find new ways to release their films to the public,” said the founder of HCA, Scott Menzel.

Following tips from the Golden Globe Awards, “Nomadland” won awards for best photography and best female director. Other highlights included Delroy Lindo winning the best actor for “Da 5 Bloods,” and “Class Action Park” and “All In: The Fight for Democracy” drawing for best documentary.

“Even with cinemas closed most of the year, 2020 was an innovative year for cinema in many ways,” said co-president Ashley Menzel of the nominee range. “We look forward to seeing more inclusion on the screen, hopefully not just in award-winning films, but in films in general.”

The fourth annual ceremony was broadcast on the HCA Facebook page and on the YouTube channel this evening. Since its creation in 2016, the organization’s mission is to raise voices that are underrepresented in the industry.

“The films that members of the Hollywood Critics Association named were among some of the most diverse and inclusive stories we’ve seen on screen for some time,” noted Menzel. “Our mission has always been to highlight all the voices and I believe it reflects tonight’s winners.”
