A gang of thieves fleeing a £ 320,000 wine theft ended up throwing some of the expensive bottles at the police during a car chase in France.

The thieves started throwing expensive bottles of wine at French policemen as they sped down the highway on Tuesday at about 5:15 am, reports the Guardian.

They were targeting the luxury Relais Château Domaine hotel in Rymska, located 29 km from Beaune, in Burgundy.

The hotel’s cellar doors were broken into by thieves, who fled with hundreds of bottles of wine.

The hotel owner was woken up after the fire alarm went off, before he got in the car and chased the gang’s van.

He continued to call for help while chasing them on the A ^ Autoroute du Soleil motorway which heads south towards Lyon.

A police officer joined the hotel owner in the chase of cars, but as they approached the van, the thieves started throwing bottles of the stolen wine at their pursuers.

The thieves then abandoned their van 22 miles north of Lyon after crashing into a toll barrier.

Police said no one was hurt and the bottles thrown at the gendarmes’ vehicle failed.

An investigation was launched and the police said they were looking for at least three men.

Investigators are also working to determine whether this incident is related to a second break-in at the hotel, just 24 hours earlier.

In the previous invasion, £ 180,000 in fine wines were stolen from the same cellar invaded in this latest incident.
