Windows 10X leak reveals another attempt to tackle Chrome OS

Windows 10X should be Microsoft’s dual-screen operating system, powering devices from a number of major manufacturers. But that plan changed last year, when the company revealed that it would focus on single-screen devices. You know, normal laptops and tablets. So, what will Windows 10X really be now? Apparently, much like Microsoft’s opinion of Google’s Chrome OS, according to Paul Thurott, who is testing a leaked version of the operating system.

The first Windows 10X screens show a drastically optimized version of Windows 10, with a simple setup experience, a clean desktop with centralized taskbar icons and a Start menu that fills the entire screen. Each application runs in full screen and it looks like you can only install software from the Microsoft Store. Windows 10X basically looks a lot like the ill-fated Windows 10S. Microsoft ended up transitioning to a mode within Windows 10, instead of a stand-alone operating system.
