Wildcats lose in South Carolina in Second Road Game of Season

COLOMBIA, SC – The University of Kentucky women’s football team lost its match to the current conference champions on Sunday afternoon, falling to South Carolina at Eugene E. Stone Stadium III in the 1-0 decision. Wildcats advance to a record of 0-3-0 in 2020, while Gamecocks move to a record of 2-1-0.

Brooke Littman recorded six saves in the competition, to 24 saves in the season. In just three games this season, his 24 saves are just four of the 2019 season total (28) and seven of his career record (31). The senior redshirt goalkeeper gave South Carolina a goal, the best of the season for Littman, after an error in the 52nd minute when Barry Catherine launched a low, central shot, giving the Gamecocks a 1-0 lead.

Just five minutes later, Maria olsen had the chance to equalize the dispute in the 57th minute, taking a penalty after a foul on Chang Lauren. The freshman from Denmark sent the kick high and went out, but flew over the crossbar.

The Wildcats were overtaken by Gamecocks, 7-1 on goal and 19-7 overall. In the meantime, Kentucky hit just two corners against South Carolina’s seven corners.

Hannah Richardson made his first appearance of the season, coming into play at 25 minutes and recording 55 minutes during the competition. Paired with co-striker Jordyn Rhodes for the first time in more than a year, the second shot two of the UK’s seven strokes in the game. Olsen added two shots, while Rhodes, Julia Grosso and Úlfa Úlfarsdóttir took one each.

Six Wildcats recorded 90 minutes against Gamecocks, including Littman, Grosso, Úlfarsdóttir, Marie Olesen, Peyton Rimko and Caroline Trout. Of that group, Littman, Trout and Úlfarsdóttir did not miss a minute of action throughout the season.

The Kentucky women’s football team will return home next Sunday, October 11, to host Georgia in a midday game at the Wendell and Vickie Bell Soccer Complex. The game will be presented on SEC Network +, with Dave Baker and Payton Atkins on the conference call.
