Wichita man arrested after shooting nephew

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A Wichita man is behind bars after police say he shot another man in the arm.

The Wichita Police Department said Ernest Coburn, of Wichita, 63, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated assault and criminal damage to property.

Police said that at approximately 8.50 pm on Saturday, officers responded to a call at a local hospital. Upon arrival, the police located a 45-year-old victim who had been shot in the arm. He was treated at the hospital for life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say Coburn and his nephew started an argument at Coburn’s house on block 2,400 on North Beacon Hill. The victim and his girlfriend were leaving the 2013 Buick Enclave for women when Coburn drew a gun and started shooting at the vehicle, hitting the vehicle and the male victim, police said.

Police say they located Coburn at his home in Beacon Hill, and he was arrested without incident.

The investigation is ongoing and the case will be brought to the Sedgwick County Prosecutor’s Office.
