While votes were being tabulated on Tuesday night in Georgia’s two tight runoff contests for the Senate, President Donald Trump predicted that state election officials would release a large portion of the results that would overwhelm Republican candidates. And he hinted that it would be an act of electoral fraud.
“It looks like they are creating a huge ‘voter eviction’ against Republican candidates. Waiting to see how many votes do they need? ”The president tweeted shortly before 10:30 pm eastern time.
In reality, however, these leadership fluctuations and the dissemination of voting results during an election are common and common.
HOW ARE ORDINARY?
They reflect the normal ebb and flow of a process that involves tabbing and releasing massive batches of results, with leads often changing hands as the count continues.
For example, Floyd County, Georgia, a Republican stronghold where Trump had previously held a demonstration, released all his results on Tuesday in a large vote at around 10 pm, which boosted initial returns in favor of Republican Party Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue.
Fluctuations in candidates’ leadership can be particularly pronounced when votes are cast in densely populated counties, which often favors Democratic candidates.
WHY DO THE PRESIDENT’S AFFIRMATION LOOK FAMILY?
Trump’s tweet revisits a similar baseless claim he made about his own defeat in November to President-elect Joe Biden. Trump had jumped to an advantage early on election day on several battlefields, but as the ballots continued to be counted, Biden ended up overtaking him.
HOW IS HE INVOLVED IN GEORGIA SINCE THEN?
Trump has repeatedly – and falsely – claimed that his loss to Biden was the product of widespread electoral fraud. And he reserved a special ire for Georgia, where both competitions were held.
During a phone call with the Republican Secretary of State of Georgia on Saturday – which was recorded and then leaked to the media – Trump repeatedly argued that the secretary, Brad Raffensperger, could change the certified results for him to win. He also asked him to “find 11,780 votes” that would eclipse Biden’s margin of victory.
“We have at least 2 or 3 – between 250 and 300,000 banknotes have been mysteriously launched on the lists. A lot of that has to do with Fulton County, which has not been verified, ”he said on Saturday during the phone call to Raffensperger.
Raffensperger repeatedly rejected Trump’s request and his office conducted several counts and recounts. They all confirmed Biden’s victory.
