Why Dave Gettleman is staying, more information from Giants co-owner John Mara

New York Giants co-owner John Mara formally announced on Wednesday that Dave Gettleman will stay for the fourth season as general manager. Mara simply said that Gettleman “is coming back”.

The Giants reached 15-33 in Gettleman’s three seasons as general manager, with double-digit losses each season.

Mara said she wanted to see progress this season and did, despite the team making 6-10 in Joe Judge’s debut season as an NFL coach.

“There is a different feeling in the building than it has been in several years,” said Mara.

Mara said she liked what she saw of the working relationship between her general manager, who would soon turn 70, and her trainer, who just turned 39. Mara said the two “worked very well together”.

“I like the combination we have now and I see no reason to separate it,” said Mara. “We have the basis for something that can be very successful in the future.”

Mara said that while the Giants have not won enough games, they have made enough progress “to ensure that the course is maintained”.
