Seth Rogen, like many other celebrities aligned with Democrats, uses his social media presence not only for self-promotion, but to broaden the causes he supports and shares criticism from Republican politicians and policies. Or as Rogen put it in a December tweet, “In fact, the best thing about this app is being able to tell politicians to go fuck themselves.” So when Rogen isn’t using Twitter to share photos and videos of the glorious fruits of his new pottery hobby, he uses it to completely decimate Senator Ted Cruz for his bad faith politicization on social media in light of the Capitol uprising on January 6. If you’re wondering why Seth Rogen and the incorrect hashtag “SethRoganlovesTedCruz” are on the rise this weekend, it’s because Ted Cruz tweeted on Inauguration Day that Joe Biden reinstating the Paris Climate Agreement “indicates that he is more interested in the opinions of the citizens of Paris than in the jobs of the citizens of Pittsburgh.” After this tweet was criticized for its disconcerting misunderstanding about who the Paris Climate Agreement is (hint: is it an international agreement and not literally just for Parisians ??), Rogen tweeted in the replies:
Cruz, who holds a seat of enormous political power as a senator who represents nearly 30 million Americans in a state that is still experiencing the brutal economic and health consequences of a pandemic, decided to spend his time and energy by starting a feud with the guy who did Sausage Party. Cruz captured Rogen’s response on January 21 and tweeted, “If you’re a rich and furious Hollywood celebrity, today’s Democrats are the party for you.”
To this, Rogen replied, “Go and encourage a white supremacy uprising again, you shitty clown,” referring to Cruz’s role in feeding and spreading the fraud-electoral conspiracy and opposing the counting of the Electoral College votes before of the Capitol riot.
Senator Ted Cruz’s absolute body by his Canadian-American colleague continued when Cruz tweeted about seeing Fantasy when he was 4, probably because his childhood hero was Chernabog. Rogen replied, simply and succinctly, “Everyone who made that movie would hate you.”
Cruz took a day to think about his best return, which was tweeting: “They are all dead. So I think we’re fine, ”and then use Tourette’s as an insult.
It turns out that making fun of a neurological disorder is not the most typical behavior of a senator, nor is it a “charming, civilized and polite response”. Rogen replied that there is Tourette in his family and that he himself has a mild case. On January 24, Rogen tweeted: “Jokes aside, @tedcruz is a piece of fascist shit.”
And cursing in a public forum continued, with Cruz calling Rogen an idiot and dropping his own oxymoron on the “fascist left”.
Rogen continued to tweet about Cruz’s role in inspiring the insurrection, writing that he is ridiculing the politician because he “tried to overthrow our government” and that his conspiratorial rhetoric “killed people”. Cruz has not responded since.
It’s like Rogen’s role as a writer for unconventional political speeches in Long shot come alive, if that character also finds time to sculpt artistic ceramics.
