Who wins the Gamecocks quarterback battle?

South Carolina football fans can’t wait for spring camp to arrive to see if a quarterback can split up in the initial battle.

Guys, believe it or not, college football is almost back in our lives. The calendar indicates the beginning of March and the spring camp is coming. At the SEC, there are countless stories, but for new South Carolina coach Shane Beamer, the quarterback battle will steal countless headlines before the first week.

With that in mind, the spring ball will be a great chance for several flags to split up in the hope of leading the attack on the field in week 1. So, who is running to enter the spring session?

Three defenders are ready to battle for the starting position in South Carolina

As it stands, it’s looking like a three-way battle between Luke Doty, Shane Brown and Colten Gauthier. On paper, however, you would imagine that Doty would have a clear advantage over the other two signal callers.

That’s because the ex-wideout ended the season as a South Carolina starter. In 2020, he shot for 405 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in the last three games of the campaign (he saw limited action in the quarterback before that).

With Brown, he was transferred from FCS Saint Francis, while Gauthier is a 2021 signatory who arrived on campus as one of the first applicants. Although having a head start on his college career is big for him, Gauthier is still a real freshman and there will undoubtedly be some growing pains along the way.

Regardless, it looks like the battle of the defenders is completely open and one of these three players will have a chance to make a name for themselves during the camp. We can’t wait to see who’s going to get the job.
