Who will be included in Kentucky’s Phase 1C vaccine?

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – By Monday, the state of Kentucky had vaccinated about 12.5% of the state’s population. Next Monday, more than one million additional people will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.

On March 1, Kentucky regional vaccination sites will move to phase 1C. This group includes people over the age of 60 and anyone aged 16 or over with high-risk health conditions. It also adds dozens of jobs to the list of essential workers, including postal, food and agricultural workers, grocery, IT and communications employees, the media and members of the clergy.

In all, the state lists 19 professions considered essential. Recently, there have been some changes about who has priority.

“Child care providers have been added to 1B, especially with schools returning in Kentucky, you will see an increasing need for child care, so it is a group that is being cared for,” Kevin Hall with the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department said.

Some people in group 1C have already been vaccinated.

For weeks, people in Phase 1C were able to be vaccinated, as long as the locals gave priority to older Kentucky residents. If there was an open consultation, they could vaccinate someone in 1C so that the state could use the vaccine available quickly.

The state says that group includes 1.3 million people. Therefore, anyone over 70 who has not yet been vaccinated may want to make an appointment soon.

“When it opens on March 1 at 1C, it will be much more difficult for people aged 70 and over to get a chance. 1C in Lexington is estimated to be about a third of the population, ”said Hall.

It is important to note that only regional vaccination posts operated by the state are certainly moving to phase 1C. For all other places, it will depend only on where they are on your vaccination schedule.

Governor Beshear encouraged all vaccination sites to continue to prioritize phase 1A and 1B individuals, even when 1C appointments are made.

The Fayette County Health Department has told us that for the time being they will continue to focus on people aged 70 and over.
