WHO says Modern vaccine ‘not recommended’ for pregnant women

In a status report released on Tuesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) advised against pregnant women who received the COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna.

WHO officials are recommending that pregnant women not get the Modern COVID-19 vaccine, unless they face a high risk of exposure, as health professionals.

“Although pregnancy puts women at greater risk for severe COVID-19, the use of this vaccine in pregnant women is currently not recommended, unless they are at risk of high exposure,” says the official WHO report.

The organization did not provide further details regarding the recommendation against pregnant women receiving the vaccine.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), limited data are available on the safety of COVID-19 vaccines for pregnant women.

The CDC states that studies on pregnant women are planned.
