Who is being vaccinated in Dane County? New panel has answers

DANE COUNTY (WKOW) – Public Health Madison & Dane County updated the Dane County COVID-19 data panel with more vaccine-related data. Vaccine data is updated on Wednesdays and Fridays every week.

The panel is available at https://publichealthmdc.com/coronavirus/dashboard.

As of February 3, 11.4% of the county had received at least one dose and 3.9% completed the complete vaccination.

35.9 percent of those aged 65 or older received at least one dose.

“The most requested data from us now is the data on the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Katarina Grande, public health supervisor and data team leader. “We hope that this new information will help the public to track the progress of the vaccine more easily. The fact that more than 11% of people already have at least some immunity to the vaccine is incredibly promising and we want to highlight that. ”

Vaccine data is extracted from the Wisconsin Immunization Registry, or WIR, and shared with Public Health by the Department of Health Services. These data are entered into the WIR by vaccinators – which includes thousands of clinics, pharmacies and health facilities. statewide, according to a press release.

Demographic data can be limited and contain some errors; race / ethnicity data in the WIR is not routinely checked or updated whenever someone receives a vaccine. Despite these limitations, it is important to show demographic data to highlight possible inequities in the distribution of vaccines.

“At the moment, the demographics of vaccinated people reflect who is eligible to receive the vaccine, such as health professionals,” continued Grande. “As vaccines are becoming more available to others in the community, we expect to see the vaccinated population equal to the general population in Dane County, with a focus on disproportionately affected populations.”
