In an unusually strange incident, a white-tailed deer in Farragut, Tennessee, was found with thick hair growing in its eyes. According to a livescience.com report, the hair covered both of the deer ‘s corneas – the transparent part of the eye that covers the front of the eye.
According to the report, a dermoid is a type of benign tumor that can appear anywhere on the body. In the case of the deer, skin tissue complete with hair follicles appeared in the deer’s cornea, the report said. The following condition can result in loss of vision, the report added.
Dermoids can be removed for cosmetic reasons, however, removal does not improve patients’ vision, Live Science reported.
According to Quality Whitetails magazine, this condition was termed “corneal dermoids”, which was found in another whitetail buck in Tennessee.
Notably, the same hairy-eyed male was diagnosed with epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD), which causes fever, tissue swelling and loss of fear in humans. However, the disease is not related to the deer’s hairy cornea.
