White Sox reassigns Carlos Rodón for one year contract

White Sox re-hires Carlos Rodón for a one-year contract that originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

It’s been a busy off-season for the White Sox and it continued on Saturday when they came together with a familiar face.

The Sox and Carlos Rodón agreed to a $ 3 million one-year contract, according to several reports.

Rodón, 28, spent his entire six-season career on the South Side after the Sox called him to third overall in 2014. His career got off to a promising start as he achieved an ERA of 3.75 in 26 games (23 matches) in its debut in the 2015 season.

However, the southpaw has been delayed by several arm injuries in recent seasons. He underwent shoulder surgery in September 2017 and Tommy John’s surgery after seven outings in 2019. A shoulder illness left him aside for much of the 2020 season, and he fought in limited action (8.22 ERA – 7 races won in 7 2/3 entries).

Rodón of White Sox did not bid last December. He was projected to win $ 4.5 million in arbitration in 2021.

Rodón has made only 41 starts since 2017, but was a useful starting pitcher when healthy, maintaining a career of 4.14 ERA. He joins an initial rotation film with Lucas Giolito, Dallas Keuchel, out of season addition Lance Lynn, Dylan Cease, Reynaldo López and Michael Kopech.

Kopech’s entries will be limited when he returns to a lot of the big league for the first time since 2018, so Rodón envisions competing with Cease and López for a spot this spring.

However, teams will need to start pitching depth to cover the increase in innings starting in the 2020 season of 60 games, so Rodón can still consider rotation if he doesn’t win a spot outside the camp.
