The White Sox opted for the right-handed Reynaldo Lopez to your alternate site on Monday, according to the team’s announcement. The change means that Lopez will not open the season for the big league.
Lopez, who came to Chicago in a successful negotiation with Washington in 2017, had a race of ups and downs with the White Sox. Now 27, Lopez pitched for 4.76 ERA / 4.98 SIERA in 446 2/3 entries as a club member. The previous two seasons were especially difficult for Lopez, who combined for a 5.52 ERA / 4.96 SIERA in 210 1/3 frames. He also had the worst career performance of 12.4% of batters last year.
Lopez entered spring training with the hope of claiming a spot in the season’s opening squad, but he allowed 11 races won in so many entries, gave up 16 strokes and totaled just six eliminations against four walks in exhibition game before the White Sox demote you. From now on, the White Sox looks like they’ll enter 2021 with a rotation that consists of Lucas giolito (whom they acquired in the same trade as Lopez), Dallas Keuchel, Lance Lynn, Dylan Cesse and Carlos rodon.
