While eagles waste time with the Carson Wentz trade, bears are impatient

The Eagles are firm at their asking price for Carson Wentz, and the trade market has cooled.

A person with knowledge of the Eagles ‘negotiations – who was granted anonymity so that he could speak freely about impending trade – told NJ Advance Media that potential trading partners remained “disciplined” in the negotiations, not wanting to meet the Eagles’ demands.

“They don’t want to give up on (Wentz) for much less than (the acquisition of Matthew Stafford),” another person with knowledge of the negotiations told NJ Advance Media on Tuesday. Detroit Lions sent Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Rams’ first round draft picks in 2022 and 2023, a third round pick in 2021, and quarterback Jared Goff.

The Indianapolis Colts asked for additional compensation – a player, players or picks – along with Wentz to approach the demands of the eagles, according to a third person with knowledge of the negotiations, who also obtained anonymity. That person said that another undisclosed Eagles player was mentioned.

There is a sense that the Chicago Bears – another stakeholder – are becoming impatient, said one of the sources. According to the person, the Bears believe that the eagles overestimated Wentz.

Although Stafford was awarded by the Rams, the heavy compensation sent to Detroit was partly due to the fact that Lions took on Goff’s huge contract, which features a guaranteed salary of $ 25 million this season.

Wentz is likely to be the next major defender to switch teams. While other defenders, like Sam Darnold from Jets and Marcus Mariota from Las Vegas Raiders, could be switched, Wentz is the most likely to be moved.

If Darnold, Mariota or another defender were traded to Indianapolis or Chicago, however, the Eagles would lose their advantage. At the moment, the Eagles have at least two teams interested in Wentz. If that number drops, the Eagles may need to accept the offer from the remaining team or deal with an embarrassing situation when the training ground is opened.

Wentz is coming out of a terrible season in which he was eliminated after 12 games for newcomer Jalen Hurts. Despite playing a shorter season, Wentz still tied for the championship lead with 15 interceptions. He also led the league by being fired 50 times while playing behind an offensive ratchet line.

Wentz has been leading the Eagles to the NFC East title for a year during the passing season of just 4,000 yards in the team’s history. He is also only three years from a 2017 season as an MVP.

Wentz has connections with the Bears and Colts training teams. He worked under coach Frank Reich of Colts, wide receiver coach Mike Groh and senior offensive assistant Press Taylor in Philadelphia. He worked with Bears’ pass game coordinator and defender coach John DeFilippo with the Eagles.

Whether negotiation is imminent or not, NJ Advance Media’s source on the initial report remained adamant that Wentz must still be negotiated, even if the negotiations extend beyond this week.
