Where to buy PS5 – The Verge

Update of March 12, 2021, at 15:55 ET: Best buy currently has both the PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 consoles in stock and available for purchase. But you can only request a pickup at your local store and you cannot have the console shipped to your home address.

The PlayStation 5 has been quite challenging to find since its launch in November. And when it is available, sales have, for the most part, been limited only online, with the stock being sold almost instantly. Despite this, we here in The Verge are dedicated to helping you keep track of when and where the PS5 is available in the hope that you might have another chance to buy Sony’s next generation console.

We are looking across the web to find out where, when and how you can buy the PS5 (with a disc drive) or the PS5 Digital Edition, as well as any packages that are not priced high.

Remember that due to the high demand of this console, the supply will not last long, with the stock being sold normally in less than an hour after being made available. However, we will do our best to keep this article up to date with the latest stock alerts and let you know when the latest replenishment is available from retailers selling the console.

Where can I buy a PS5 now?

Due to the pandemic, most retailers, including Best Buy and Target, will only sell the console online until further notice. We see refueling going on several times a week at various retailers; most notably, we have seen frequent refills recently appear at Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart in particular. If you’re looking for a package, retailers like Antonline and Newegg will likely sell PS5 packages instead of the real console.

We note that refueling to the console is more likely to happen at the end of the week, as opposed to the beginning of the week. In addition, places like Newegg are combating demand for this console by making a Newegg Shuffle, which randomly selects winners interested in buying wanted products.

What accessories do I need to buy for the PS5?

The PS5 includes all the basic things you need to get started (except games, of course). However, you may want to consider choosing additional accessories to ensure that you get the most out of your new console.

First, there is the controller. Each new PS5 includes a DualSense controller. But there are some benefits to owning at least one additional controller, such as if you plan to play local cooperative games with a friend or relative. Or, if you’re like me and want to keep playing, but don’t want to get stuck with the charging cable, a second controller allows you to continue playing while the other one loads. Normally, $ 70, we saw the controller drop to $ 60.

The PS5 HD Camera is a great accessory for people interested in using their PS5 to stream video games live or stream their games with friends. Includes dual 1080p lenses and allows you to remove the background from your camera’s feed and replace it with something else.

I strongly recommend subscribing to PlayStation Plus if you haven’t already; in addition to taking advantage of some online gaming features, PlayStation Plus offers a ton of additional incentives, especially PS5 owners have access to the PlayStation Plus Collection, a digital library of some of the most impactful titles to launch on PS4.

The PS5 comes with 825 GB of storage available at the moment and, unfortunately, there is no way to expand the fast internal storage today. Sony is expanding the options for more SSD storage. If you want to store some older PS4 titles on your console so as not to use your limited SSD storage, I strongly recommend buying an external hard drive to store those titles.
