Where can I get the coronavirus vaccine?

HOUSTONAt KPRC 2, we are dedicated to keeping Houstonians informed. As part of our Ask 2 series, the newsroom will answer your questions on all Houston matters.

Question: Where can I get the coronavirus vaccine?

Answer: At the time of writing, state health officials have restricted starting doses to people in two groups – Phase 1A and Phase 1B. Officials said the goal is to ensure that the limited number of initial doses reaches those who need it most.

Phase 1A includes frontline healthcare professionals and people in long-term care facilities. Phase 1B includes anyone aged 65 or over or people aged 16 or over with comorbidity. You can find more information about the stages here.

The bottom line is that if you don’t fit into any of these groups, you will not be eligible to receive the coronavirus vaccine at this time. However, the Texas Department of Health Services has created a map that helps people locate a vaccine supplier. It includes the disclaimer that people should call the provider directly to find out how they are administering the vaccine. You can access the map here.

Several hospital systems in the Houston area have started to contact patients who are eligible to start making appointments for vaccines. Some people told KPRC 2 that these consultations are running out quickly.

If you believe you are eligible to receive the vaccine, you should contact your doctor or pharmacist to find out where you can get the vaccine.

Officials said that as the number of doses available increases, the vaccine will be made available to larger segments of the population. Some officials said this may not happen until at least spring.
