Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook and Facebook Messenger were down for millions of users today for approximately 30 minutes, with people complaining that they were unable to access the Facebook chat platform package.
“We are sorry, but something went wrong. Please try again,” said the Instagram app whenever we tried to access any part of the app. WhatsApp was similar with a ‘Connecting’ icon and circling near the top, and we saw similar problems in the Facebook Messenger app. The messages were not reaching our contacts.
Facebook has not yet commented on the problems, but there have been similar problems in the past that have seen all of these services experience disruptions at the same time.
⚠️ Is anyone else experiencing this big interruption? Instagram + WhatsApp + Facebook Messenger are disabled now! How do I ❤️memes now? More at @techradar: https://t.co/OfYYulk5tKMarch 19, 2021
TechRadar asked Facebook for a comment on what’s going on, but we still haven’t received a response. Without Facebook comments, we still don’t know when these services will resume.
We will be monitoring the four services to see when they will return online and be sure to return to this story for any updates on when we can expect the return of WhatsApp, Instagram and more.
Where are the problems happening? It seems to be all over the world, as DownDetector is reporting from the United States, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Russia. We can also confirm that the problems are also happening in the UK.
At the moment, it is not clear whether this is affecting other Facebook services, but we will keep this story updated on issues as we go along.
Under development…
