What’s new in the fourth fall season today

Fall Guys soaked neon from the fourth season is officially launched today. The update introduces a number of changes to the platformer royale, including seven new levels:

  • Basketfall: Yea, Fall Guys it’s getting other team-based ball-throwing mini-game. We no longer learn this lesson with Egg Scramble?
  • Skyline Stumble: Earlier this month, Mediatonic showed off Skyline Stumble as the first teaser of the fourth season. It will feature 60 players, low gravity zones and whatever “flippity bippities” are.
  • Short circuit: This is a short run. Take it? Eh?
  • Hoverboard Heroes: As the best Fall Guys levels, Hoverboard Heroes looks like a crazy race through an inventive obstacle course.
  • Power Trip: Do you know those team mini-games where you are played in a paneled area and then have to step on the panels to “transfer” them to your team? Power Trip is one of them.
  • Great shots: Big Shots looks like Fall Guys Yahtzee. Take the central concept of Fruit Chute – dodge giant objects plucked from cannons – except, instead of fruit, make objects giant planets. Then, ask players to balance on one of the See Saw-level seesaws, the least favorite round of all.
  • Roll On: Fall Guys it is at its best during the simple obstacle course in which a zillion grains of pastel color run towards the end. Roll On is one of them, mixing the elements of the Roll Out rotating course.

Fall Guys the fourth season will also introduce a squad mode, which brings players together in small groups of four. If someone on your team wins the final round, you all claim victory – a benefit for those of us who constantly make it to the final fourth round just to lose. Squads also change the way elimination works. In races, you will score points according to when you finish the race. The teams with the lowest score are kicked. The same principle applies to squad survival rounds: stay on the course longer and you will earn more points.

Today we also see the addition of daily challenges and a new currency called Crown Shards. Collect 60 of them and you can exchange for a crown. In theory, this should lower the barrier to winning crowns (and, more crucially, spending those crowns on the game’s increasingly wacky cosmetics).

This comes along with a litany of bug fixes that Mediatonic detailed in a tweet Last week. On the one hand, Fall Mountain will now spawn players in a single line so as not to give anyone an advantage. In Door Dash, you will no longer be disqualified if you finish the race so hard that you throw over the edge. There are other general performance fixes, improvements to the user interface and the like. But best of all, you can fold at any time after the elimination, which means you don’t have to wait for the next round to load.

With previous Fall Guys seasons, I recovered quickly, discovering that each new season added little to the game. But seven new rounds that also look like fun may be enough to attract me. In addition, the seasonal theme – a distant future that looks disconcertingly like the 1980s, without cocaine – is intriguing. We will see how long the interest is maintained.
