At the time of TV on DVD, no series was treated better than The Muppet Show– until it wasn’t. Disney produced luxurious full-season sets for the series, including nifty bonus features, and even packaged them in f“diffuse” locked boxes designed to reproduce the flexible feel of … a Muppet’s coat? Skin? For three of the five seasons, at least.
Unfortunately, sales apparently were not strong enough to justify the effort, or Disney got distracted by brighter things like lightsabers and Iron Man; independently – and a Despite the Change.org petition– seasons four and five of The Muppet Show were never released on DVD.
Fortunately, while this will never calm the hurt feelings of physical media experts, Disney is doing the right thing for Kermit fans, releasing all five seasons on Disney + next month, so that you can taste each strange celebrity cameo in its original glory.
As if that were not enough, there are other things coming to Disney + in February, including a new movie, Flora and Ulysses, based on the book by Kate DiCamillo (The tale of Despereaux) But I’ll only be watching Pigs in Space.
