What would a Carson Wentz exchange with the Denver Broncos look like?

Another day ending in “y”, another trade rumor from Carson Wentz. This time … is it the MYSTERY TEAM ?! I’ve been in the Denver Broncos as a destination for some time now, it makes a lot of sense.

John Elway has been unable to attract a famous name to the position of defender since Peyton Manning retired. Now, with a new GM on George Paton’s path, the most important thing is for the team to find a QB with the “name” and “production” (2020 aside) to help Denver compete with Kansas City in the division. At the very least, they need to make sure they can keep the Chargers and rising star Justin Herbert away from them.

Paton knows the Eagles well, as he was part of the Vikings’ front office during Sam Bradford’s exchange. Bradford went on to launch 20 TDs and 5 INTs in 2016 for the Vikings.

With that familiarity and John Elway’s willingness to approve a move to a new QB, there must be a relatively easy path to negotiation … right? Well, it all comes down to compensation.

What can the Broncos offer the Eagles?

The Broncos currently holds the 9th choice in the draft. This is serious capital in itself. Separating from that choice would give Eagles choices 6 and 9 (cool).

Out of choice, they have a few attractive names on their list that are on rookie contracts:

Courtland Sutton – Sutton was widely seen as a “runaway” star for 2020, so a torn ACL happened. After more than 1,100 yards in the second season, Sutton was limited to 31 clicks in his first game of 2020. Without Sutton, Denver relied on Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler, Noah Fant, Tim Patrick and DaeSean Hamilton for production. Jeudy (856) and Patrick (742) led the way to the Broncos, while tight end Noah Fant was next (673). This production suggests that the Broncos could survive Courtland Sutton’s departure. Sutton is in the last year of his business and has a $ 2.9 million limit.

There are reports that rehab is going well and he started running recently.

DaeSean Hamilton – If the Broncos want to see how Sutton recovers from rehab before deciding whether or not to move on, they can move on from one of his replacements. Hamilton went to school at Penn State and is entering his fourth year in the league. In 2020, he had 293 yards, which is four yards below his 2019 total. Production was not there, but maybe coming home could unlock his potential.

Brad Kelly, of the Draft Network, called Hamilton his “favorite recipient of the 2018 class”. He has the necessary skills for the slot and is big enough (6’1 ″) to abuse the smaller DBs he would see in the slot. Eagles haven’t had a “big slot” receiver in a long time.

Hamilton has another year in his business and carries a cap of $ 2.35 million.

Royce Freeman – It seems that there are always rumors that Freeman goes to the Eagles. Phillip Lindsay is a free agent, so if he leaves, I can’t see the Broncos parting with Freeman. But if they bring Lindsay back to keep his two-headed monster intact with Melvin Gordon, then Freeman is expendable. He turns 25 next week, doesn’t have many tires and has a 4.0 YPC career. Its 6’0 ″ 238 lb frame is the large body that the Eagles haven’t had since Blount.

Freeman has another year in his business and carries a cap of $ 1.2 million.

Defensively, it is difficult to see the Broncos parting ways with their young talents. CB Michael Ojemudia will be entering his second year and showed flashes of potential for beginners. The team just released AJ Bouye, so the need for CB depth is high.

What would the business look like?

If Elway really wants to compete with the Chiefs for the supremacy of the AFC, he will offer the number 9 and finish him off.

If the Eagles insist on a player in return, the number 9 is off the table.

I see two options:

1: Eagles sends Carson Wentz and picks 3rd round to Denver for 9th overall pick

2: Eagles sends Carson Wentz, 5th round choice, 4th round conditional choice in 2022 * to Denver for Courtland Sutton, 40th overall choice, 2022 conditional 2nd round choice **

* Conditions: the choice of the 4th round can become the 3rd if Sutton has 1,000 yards

** Conditions: the choice of the 2nd round could become the 1st if the Broncos beat AFC West
