Earlier this week, Capcom announced the RE Showcase, giving us a first look at what to expect from the Resident Evil franchise in the coming weeks and months.
Here is everything we would like to see in the showcase.
Resident Evil 8 release date
During the announcement, it was revealed that we would be seeing the gameplay of the next Resident Evil 8 for the first time.
Along with the gameplay, it would be great to see a release date for the game announced.
There is a rumor that the game will be released in April, but nothing has been confirmed.
The last RE titles were released in January or April, so unless Capcom leaves RE8 immediately after the event, I think we can rule out January as the release date.
Instead, April looks like a likely release date, otherwise we will have to wait until autumn because most developers choose not to release games during the summer.
Resident Evil 4 remake announcement
Following the success of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 Remake, fans immediately speculated on the possibility of a Resident Evil 4 Remake, with “leaks” claiming it is in progress.
Many fans would be thrilled to know that the game is in production, as it is often considered one of the best games of all time and helped define how action games would be played over the next decade with mechanics like Quick Time Events.
Another possibility is a Code Veronica Remake, it was the next game in the series after RE3, so it would make sense, but it’s not as popular as the numbered games, despite claiming to be the original RE3.
Live action movie release date
In 2020, we found out about restarting a new live action movie for Resident Evil.
In 2002, the first Resident Evil film was released, followed by several others.
These were directed by Paul WS Anderson and starring Milla Jovovich as Alice.
Despite raising more than $ 1 billion, the series was not fondly remembered by fans.
A restart has been announced, keeping closer to the original source material.
At the end of 2020, we started to see a lot of pictures of the film’s sets, with many looking strikingly similar to their video game equivalents.
It has been confirmed that filming has ended, so I hope the film is not far off.
The current expected release date is September 9, 2021, but Capcom’s official confirmation would be great news, also seeing a trailer would be icing on the cake.
Netflix animated movie release date
An animated Resident Evil movie is being produced for release on Netflix.
This will star Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, bringing the iconic duo back for the first time since 2008’s Resident Evil: Degeneration.
The first trailer for the film has already been released, but there is still no release date, we only know it will be in 2021.
Check out the Infinite Darkness trailer below.
Manga release date
To close Resident Evil’s 25th anniversary is the new Resident Evil manga.
Announced during New York Comic Con’s MetaVerse online event, the new manga is slated for release in 2021 and will coincide with the animated film Infinite Darkness.
This will not be the first time that a Resident Evil manga will be released, with several released over the years, including the popular Chinese manga.
2021 must be a great year for Resident Evil, as it celebrated its 25th anniversary.
The first Resident Evil game was released on March 22, 1996 in Japan, the series is called Biohazard in Japan.
Since then, the series has sold over 105 million copies, making it one of the most successful game franchises of all time.
