We took a closer look at the vaccine launch in the San Francisco Bay area this week and found that while supply shortages remain an issue, counties and healthcare providers are starting to make progress with infrastructure for implementation, whether launching a panel reporting vaccine data or creating a mass vaccination site.
- Counties are administering vaccines based on the state’s prioritization framework, which is based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- Although county health departments are responsible for executing the state’s plans, they make the final decision on when different groups of people will receive the vaccine.

Vaccine news: The county is stepping up vaccination efforts to accelerate vaccines for the elderly and open vaccination sites, with the Concord Pavilion and the Crane Way Pavilion in Richmond under consideration, according to ABC 7 News.
Marin

Who can be vaccinated in the county now? “Currently, only the health professionals defined in Phase 1A are being vaccinated,” according to the county website. “Some medical providers have started scheduling patients who are in Phase 1B, including those over 65, for vaccine appointments next week.”
Vaccine news: At a one-day event on Sunday, Marin Public Health, assisted by Kaiser Permanente and Marin Medical Reserve Corps, vaccinated 1,247 education officials, including custodians, food service, transportation (bus drivers), teachers special education and other paraprofessionals.
“Remember that education is just one group that was vaccinated this week as part of Phase 1B,” wrote Laine Hendricks, county public information officer, by email. “We are also offering vaccines for daycare centers and people aged 75 and over – as the supply allows. Vaccine news: The city of San Francisco and its health care providers announced a goal on Wednesday to vaccinate all residents by early summer.

Total vaccines administered: San Mateo County received 25,800 first doses of vaccine and 22,354 of them were administered through county channels – as a drive-through clinic last week that vaccinated 9,550 people in seven days, county officials said at a news conference Thursday -market. Vaccine news: The county announced on Monday that it has partnered with Safeway to administer COVID-19 vaccines to county health workers. On Wednesday, Safeway pharmacists helped the county vaccinate approximately 5,000 home support workers. In addition, 11 pharmacies at Safeway stores across the county have received state approval to provide COVID-19 vaccines, and IHSS employees will be able to start receiving vaccines at these locations starting next week.
