What we know about shooting victims in Boulder, Colorado

Police identified the 10 victims who died after a sniper fired at a crowded supermarket in Boulder, Colorado. Victims included a 51-year-old man policeman who responded to the attack scene.

The 21-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Monday and was charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder. Police said the suspect was shot and hospitalized in stable condition.

President Joe Biden extended condolences to the victims’ families. “Ten lives have been lost and more families have been destroyed by armed violence in the state of Colorado,” he said on Tuesday.

Few details are available about the victims, but here’s what we know so far:

Talley, an 11-year-old veteran of the Boulder Police Department, ran to the shooting site at the supermarket, where he was shot dead.

Talley was the father of seven children and loved his community, Boulder’s chief of police, Maris Herold, told a news conference. Herold called his efforts at the shooting “heroic” and said, “he is all that policing deserves and needs.”

Her sister, Kirstin, remembered her brother in Twitter: “My heart is broken. I can’t explain how handsome he was and what a devastating loss it is for so many. Fly high, my sweet brother. You always wanted to be a pilot (bloody color blindness). Fly high.”

The 25-year-old’s death was confirmed by the police and her aunt Lori, who remembered her niece on Facebook.

“Thank you all for all your prayers, but the Lord received a beautiful young angel yesterday …” she wrote in part. “We will be posting details about her arrangements in the next few days.”

Mahoney’s daughter Erika lamented her father on Twitter, saying he “represented all things in love”.

“I am very grateful that he accompanied me to the altar last summer,” she wrote on Tuesday. “I’m pregnant now. I know he wants me to be strong for his granddaughter. I love you forever, Dad. You are always with me.”

Murray, an Instacart employee, was working when he was killed in the supermarket. The company’s founder and CEO, Apoorva Mehta, sent condolences to Murray’s family.

“Violence of any kind has no place in our society, and our teams are working with law enforcement officials and King Soopers’ staff to help in any way we can,” said Mehta. “We contacted the buyer’s family to offer our support and resources during this unimaginably difficult time.”
