Weeknd (unsurprisingly) rocked a red suit during the Super Bowl halftime show.
Richfresh designer Patrick Henry created the custom costume for the singer, WWD reported. The look – which referred to several recent red and black suits worn by the star – featured a bright red blazer worn over a black shirt, pants and tie, and black leather gloves.
“I wanted to keep it really clean,” the Los Angeles designer told the publication. “Everything is done in such a way that it stays very close when it is stopped, but it can still move because Abel likes to move.”
The outfit paid homage to the “transformation”, which the designer said was “the whole tone and message of [The Weeknd’s] album ”, called“ After Hours ”.
The transformation of the singer’s face, from bloody and bandaged to altered with prostheses and CGI plastic surgery, was also a hot topic last year – part of “The Character” that he created around his album.
The range’s look looked similar to the tailored suits The Weeknd wore in recent appearances, the stylist told WWD. The 30-year-old, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, exhibited his own style while performing and attending events with a bruised face, including the 2020 VMAs, who saw him with bruises, and the 2020 American Music Awards, where his face it was completely wrapped in bandages.
“The meaning of all the bandages on the head is reflected in the absurd culture of Hollywood celebrities and in people who manipulate themselves for superficial reasons to please and be validated,” he previously told Variety.
Although The Weeknd’s face did not appear altered for the halftime show, several dancers with bandaged faces and similar costumes surrounded the star at various points during the performance.
As Page Six previously reported, The Weeknd’s halftime show took place mainly in the stands, rather than in the field, to respect the safety precautions of COVID-19.
