Based on the first reports, the New England Patriots spent more than $ 200 million in total contractual value on Monday: they hired seven outside players and also retained two of their free in-house agents. As always, however, the figures initially reported show only a fragment of the image and need more details to be properly evaluated.
These details, at least when it comes to three of the agreements signed by the Patriots at the beginning of the period of legal moderation, have been reported by Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle on Monday night: the free agency pacts of defender Jalen Mills and wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, as well as the extension of the contract to striker Deatrich Wise Jr. Although not all incentives are known at this time, this creates a basis to work.

The Jalen Mills breach of contract confirms what the gross numbers already suggested. The deal is not only good for a player with a high advantage, but inconsistent performances on his resume, but also from the perspective of New England: the salary cap adjustments are manageable throughout the duration of the contract and the team could have a way comparatively easy after the second season, when the limit economy begins to exceed the dead money charge.

WR Kendrick Bourne: Three years, $ 15 million

If Kendrick Bourne’s reported incentives for the 2021 season are unlikely to be met, his salary cap will be just $ 3.12 million – the team’s 13th highest with all the contracts they currently are known in more detail. Although the impact of the cap will skyrocket over the next two years, the Patriots prepared to assess the Bourne agreement after the 2022 season and possible parties at that point.

While initial reports of the Deatrich Wise Jr deal considered a four-year deal worth up to $ 30 million, that figure includes playing time incentives that are presumed unlikely to be won at this time. Consequently, the real value of the contract and its salary limits are more reasonable from the Patriots’ point of view. What the agreement shows, however, is that the team has a role in mind in choosing the old draft of the fourth round.

Patriots analysis
The first three deals reported in more detail show that New England felt comfortable doing long-term deals on Monday, but not all fall into the same money category as those signed by tight end Jonnu Smith or linebacker Matthew Judon . Mills, Bourne and Wise Jr.’s contracts are much more focused on strengthening the squad’s middle class and improving their overall depth in their respective positions.
All three should therefore be considered as blocks to being on the 53-player roster of the Patriots in the regular season.
