COLUMBUS, Ohio – Linebacker Raesjon Davis of Mater Dei High School in California is one of the last two targets for Ohio state football in the 2021 recruiting class. He will be in Columbus this weekend, as reported by Greg Biggins , from 247Sports.
Three things are worth considering what this visit by player No. 45 in the country and No. 4 by the external linebacker means for Buckeyes:
1 He plans to announce his decision on February 3.

3 – The state of Ohio has a linebacker in its 2021 class and three committed in 2022.
The first two facts explain why this visit is important now.
The LSU ex-commit visit will unfold in the same way that others did last year. Ryan Day and his technical team will not be involved, there will be no tour of the Woody Hayes Athletic Facility or Ohio Stadium, and he will not post photos of himself on all OSU equipment. He and his family will come to Columbus and walk around campus and around like anyone to get an idea of an environment in which to live in the years to come.
It is the same itinerary that the 2022 tight end Bennett Christian went through before choosing the Buckeyes in September. Defensive side Jack Sawyer served as a tour guide when he invited other 2021 members to spend a weekend in Columbus in October for the Buckeye Bash.
It is no coincidence that Davis’ trip happens to fall on a weekend when potential colleagues would call OSU’s home campus. These children are smart, so when news of the visit came, some of them reacted publicly.
The deadline for recruiting forbids coaches from getting personally involved, but there is nothing to say that a player cannot bump into Davis. Sawyer lives 15 minutes from campus, so he’ll have plenty of time to do his part by ensuring that the next time Davis comes to Columbus, it’s permanent. Five star wide receiver Emeka Egbuka hinted that he arrived Wednesday night so expect him to be involved. Others will certainly join them.
Ohio State has been on both sides of a player who needs to see the campus before deciding. Egbuka was sold at OSU, but wanted to see Oklahoma too. For Davis, the Buckeyes want to have the final say.
So, there is how this decision can affect future classes.
Reid Carrico is the only linebacker of 2021, but coach Al Washington added three in 2022 with CJ Hicks, Dasan McCullough and Gabe Powers. All four are the top 100 recruits with roots in Ohio.
Adding a fourth class to the 2022 class has always been a possibility due to the potential for early graduations. But Davis’ commitment would help to balance the classes in the linebacker’s classroom.
Davis joins JT Tuimoloau’s five-star defensive side as the Buckeyes’ last likely addition to a class that ranks second in the country. Tuimoloau’s decision has no exact deadline, but Davis has made his intentions clear.
He is ready to commit somewhere on February 3rd. The state of Ohio will once again rely on the power of recruiting colleagues to help you succeed.
