It didn’t work out for the Baltimore Ravens in their 17-3 loss to Buffalo Bills on Saturday night in the NFL divisional round.
Justin Tucker, the most accurate NFL kicker, missed his first two attempts at field goal by hitting the ball twice with the columns. His only mark was still close.
After reaching the interval tied in three, Harbaugh’s defense gave up on an initial score that culminated in Stefon Diggs taking a fast pass from Josh Allen. Baltimore would run a 15-game run that lasted nearly nine minutes and took them to Buffalo’s nine-yard line. In the third for the goal, Lamar Jackson would look for his favorite target, tight end Mark Andrews, only to see Taron Johnson jump in front of the pass and go 101 yards home to give Buffalo a two-point advantage. It was the first interception of the red zone of Jackson’s career.
Poor snaps plagued Baltimore throughout the night as well and for the Ravens’ subsequent drive, Jackson would have to run back close to his final zone to recover the lost ball. He tried to throw it away, but was signaled by intentional grounding and was injured during the play. He would be placed in the concussion protocol and would not return to the game.
Despite a bad day in the surrounding office, Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh was nothing but class for Bill’s head coach Sean McDermott. After Buffalo’s victory, Harbaugh left a simple message for McDermott.
Win it all.
After the game, Harbaugh met with the media and praised Buffalo’s game plan.
“Congratulations to the Bills,” said Harbaugh in his opening statement. “Obviously, they played a very good game of football in all three phases. They were free from mistakes and capitalized on their opportunities. At the beginning of the second half it was great after, also, the turnover. They did a great job. Sean, Leslie and all your guys, congratulations.
Buffalo will find out who he will face in the AFC Championship game tomorrow afternoon, when the Cleveland Browns face Kansas City Chiefs. If Cleveland gets the comeback, Buffalo will host the championship game. If Kansas City wins, however, Bills will go to Arrowhead Stadium.
