The Fathers on Monday added to what was already, on paper, the strongest rotation in the franchise’s history. His last blow will bring right-handed Joe Musgrove home, for what is expected to be a pennant chase. According to sources, San Diego has agreed to acquire the Grossmont High graduate in a three-team exchange with Pirates and Mets. The deal, which is pending medical analysis, will send southpaw Joey Lucchesi to New York, while dispatching analyst David Bednar and candidates for Hudson Head, Omar Cruz and Drake Fellows to Pittsburgh.

In dealing with Musgrove, the Fathers continue to subscribe to the theory that a major league team can never have enough launches. After a pandemic season in which their innings leader dropped just 70 frames, they now seem to have the best in the league …
