What is the difference between Therian and Incarnate in Pokémon GO?

Starting on Tuesday, Pokémon GO will begin launching the Therian Forms of Landorus, Tornadus and Thundurus. Players are familiar with these Pokémon, but are seeing these new versions of them added to the game for the first time. Let’s see what the real difference is between these versions.

In the most basic, the difference between the Incarnate Form and the Therian is equivalent to the same difference between the Giratina Form of Origin and the Altered Giratina Form, Deoxys Normal and the other variants, and so on. This means that there is a physical change and a change in the statistics. The “original” version introduced in the games was the Incarnate Version, but there are some dialogues in the original games that suggest that the “true” form and appearance is uncertain: the Incarnate Humanoid or the animalistic Therian.

On the practical side of things, we are seeing a change in statistics. Here are the statistics, side by side, for each of these Legendaries in Pokémon GO in its different forms:

  • Landorus Incarnate Forme
    • Attack: 261
    • Defense: 182
    • Stamina: 205
  • Landorus Therian Forme:
    • Attack: 289
    • Defense: 179
    • Stamina: 205
  • Tornadus Incarnate Forme
    • Attack: 266
    • Defense: 164
    • Stamina: 188
  • Tornadus Therian Forme:
    • Attack: 238
    • Defense: 189
    • Stamina: 188
  • Thundurus Incarnate Forme
    • Attack: 266
    • Defense: 164
    • Stamina: 188
  • Thundurus Therian Forme:
    • Attack: 295
    • Defense: 161
    • Stamina: 188

Notably, changes in statistics from Encarnado to Therian are not consistent from species to species. Landorus’ attack increases and Defense stops slightly. Tornadus’ attack drops dramatically, with his Defense increasing. Finally, the Thundurus Attack rises to the highest number of the three with its Defense only decreasing. The resistance remains the same for all three.

Thundurus Therian will arrive on Tuesday, replacing Thundurus Incarnate. Pokémon GO announced that Therian Forme Tornadus will be presented the following week. Although it was not explicitly stated, I am sure that we can expect Therian Forme Landorus, the last of the trip, the following week. Stay tuned to Bleeding Cool for our Therian Thundurus Raid Guide, who will help you form a team to face this Pokémon.
