At the end of 2019, the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 was launched; it surprised us with a low price, but with great design and cameras, and ended up being one of the best phones of the year. But despite our hopes, there was no Xiaomi Mi Note 11 in 2021 – so what happened?
Well, let’s assume that the phone was canceled, or at least significantly postponed compared to the rumored release date for the end of the year.
We have tried to contact Xiaomi on the matter, but we have not yet received comments from the company. There was no certainty that the Mi Note 11 was coming out, as there was no Mi Note 9 in 2018, but many tech fans appreciated the fantastic cost-effectiveness of the Mi Note 10.
Why didn’t the Xiaomi Mi Note 11 appear when we expected it? Well, it is possible that the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 sold poorly or the Covid-19 made production a challenge, but we thought it was something else – it looks like another phone has replaced the Mi Note 11.
Xiaomi had a busy 2020 year, launching new phones on the left, right and center. So, did one of these new devices replace the Xiaomi Mi Note line? We believe that these three phones helped prevent the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 from seeing a successor.
Xiaomi Mi 11
The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 emerged four months before the launch of Mi 10, Xiaomi’s flagship series for 2020. This means that the Note device had enough time to stand on its own and attract potential buyers before the launch of the next series of phones.
The Xiaomi Mi 11 was launched on December 28, well before the February launch that many initially expected. Xiaomi may have thought that the early launch was very close to the November launch that the Mi Note 11 should have, and thus damaged the bottom line.
After all, rumors about the Xiaomi Mi 11 launch date started a long time ago – few would have purchased the Mi Note 11 knowing that the Mi 11 was coming, since they would probably wait for the main line if its launch was so close.
Maybe we’ll see the Xiaomi Mi Note 11 arrive later, then? It may appear in February, when the Mi 11 is expected to launch, but we are not holding our breath.
Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro
The Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro, launched in mid-2020, a phone very different from the Mi Note 10, but it was going to exactly the same type of point of sale – the intermediate level ‘car killer’.
Like the Mi Note 10, the Poco F2 Pro had a low price, but specifications that resembled a more premium device. Of course, these high specs were different – the Mi Note 10 had fantastic design and cameras, while the Poco F2 Pro was heavier on the performance side, but they were still in competition.
Perhaps Xiaomi saw the Poco F2 Pro as too much of a rival to the Mi Note 11 to make it worth launching the latter. If that were true, it would be a shame – as we said, they were different enough – and we imagine that most phone fans prefer each other.
Xiaomi Mi 10T
As with the Poco F2 Pro, the Xiaomi Mi 10T series targets the same mid-range market as the Xiaomi Mi Note series – that’s Xiaomi’s main domain, after all. Unlike Poco, however, this device, launched in September 2020, has a name that some buyers could mistake for the Mi Note 10.
For both reasons, it is possible that Xiaomi thought that the Mi 10T line would compete with a new Mi Note phone and decided to discard the Mi Note 11. Of course, it is a different number than the Mi 10T, but considering how no phone fans can stay very confused with all the names of Android phones, there is still that risk for some buyers.
It is very possible that the presence of three Mi 10T phones meant that Xiaomi simply couldn’t make any more devices either – they were only released two months before we expected the Mi Note 11 and, given the Covid-19, some tech companies had problems manufacturing.
The Xiaomi Mi 10T series was an excellent replacement for the Mi Note 11, but it was not so attractive. As unlikely as it may be, we are crossing our fingers and hoping that the Mi Note 11 has been delayed, not canceled.
