Why are the blue dots next to some apps?

If you see a blue dot next to the app’s name on your iPhone or iPad’s home screen, it means that the app has been updated recently.

As such, the blue dot suggests that there may be new features added to the application since the last time you ran it. This encourages you to check the app again. In fact, the same thing happens when you update applications on your Mac.

If blue dots are appearing next to the names of your apps when you didn’t expect it, it means that you have automatic app updates enabled on your iPhone or iPad. If you want to disable automatic app updates, visit Settings> App Store and turn off the button next to “App updates”. But in general, having this feature enabled is a good thing.

Blue dots will also appear when you manually update an app on the App Store.

To remove a blue dot next to the app’s name, touch the app and launch it. As soon as the application is run, the dot will disappear. However, the blue dot will reappear the next time the application is updated.
