What curfew? Spring break party in Miami despite restrictions

The holiday parties in Miami Beach kept the party lively – despite the newly imposed curfew to try to stifle the intoxicated annual rite.

Police officers along Ocean Drive began announcing the start of the curfew at 8 pm on Thursday after the city’s crackdown on uncontrolled party-goers that resulted in more than 1,000 arrests since February and the seizure of at least 102 weapons, Miami reported Herald.

But some revelers still roamed parts of South Beach after the curfew on the first Thursday since the new regulations went into effect, the newspaper reported.

“We had no choice,” said Kopp’s friend Owen Blank, 24. “The money has already been spent.”

Other tourists continued to walk along Ocean Drive when the curfew came into effect, according to the report. But a Miami Beach police spokesman told The Post on Friday that no arrests were recorded, although he needed to check the department’s records to confirm.

“We had much smaller crowds,” wrote official Ernesto Rodriguez by email.

The city manager, Raul Águila, said that more than half of the prisoners were from outside the state, many of whom had the intention “to be involved in the illegality and a ‘anything goes’ attitude.”

But the party “continued” along Ocean Drive as several police officers told party-goers about the approaching curfew, the Herald reported, with a strong smell of marijuana in the air.

Destinee Anderson, 24, from Nashville, said three policemen in a golf cart interrupted her as she walked down Collins Avenue.

“It seems that they are difficult and that we are of no importance,” said Anderson.
