If Texan quarterback Deshaun Watson demands a switch and if Texans realize that there is no good way out of the mess they created, what would Watson generate from another team?
Given the number of teams that would be interested – and there would be many – Texans would simply need to sit and wait while the teams increase their offerings more and more.
So, how high is it going? Based on conversations with several general managers, the consensus was three choices in the first round. As a GM said, if the first of the first round is among the top 10 in the 2021 draft, it would help to finish.
The Texans have taken the position that they will not negotiate Watson. If he decides he wants to leave, negotiating with him may be the best option – especially when teams start making offers to Texans, it will be difficult to refuse.
