What Brad Stevens had to say about Celtics players “shutting you down”

The Bruins lost to the Devils on Thursday, 3-2. Jake DeBrusk and David Pastrnak scored Boston’s goals.

On Sunday, the Bruins will face the Flyers outdoors on the shore of Lake Tahoe. The game start time was changed, and is now set to start at 2:00 pm ET.

Tonight, the Celtics have a chance to avenge Wednesday’s loss to the Hawks, facing Atlanta again at 7:30 pm

Brad Stevens on current Celtics issues: The Celtics, despite expectations reaching the season after reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in 2020, are currently only 14-14.

While much of the failure can be attributed to injuries and (in the case of Jayson Tatum) to the persistent effects of COVID-19, criticism has partially fallen on Celtics coach Brad Stevens.

In his weekly interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub “Zolak & Bertrand,” Stevens was asked if he thinks players are “shutting you down”.

“Well, the disconnected part I don’t [detect], ”Stevens replied. “And you will certainly go through times of the year when guys are frustrated with their own individual experiences. You will not be playing with more than five guys at the same time and you will not be playing with more than eight, nine, sometimes 10 guys in their rotation when totally healthy. So there will always be something, right? “

“But when it comes to boys and our ability to train on a day-to-day basis, they have been great for me,” added Stevens. “I have no complaints about that. And listen, we all know that we have to be better. I think it’s a common thought when things are not going well. But I don’t really put much into these things. “

Celtics basketball operations president Danny Ainge, when asked about this, defended Stevens in strong terms.

“Absolutely not,” said Ainge about whether the players were shutting down Stevens. “This is ridiculous. I just think this is the culture of sports and sports reporting. It’s a common theme; it should be like that if you don’t show up to play or to play with the intensity and motivation necessary to win. . ”

Curiosities: The 2010 Butler men’s basketball team that Brad Stevens coached for an appearance in the Four Finals included two future NBA players. One was Gordon Hayward. Who was the other one?

(Answer at the bottom).

Tip: he was chosen in the second round by the Wizards in 2011 and played for seven different NBA teams. He currently plays for Panathinaikos in Greece.

The Patriots are hiring another coach:

In this day: In 1953, Red Sox outfielder, Ted Williams, was in Korea in the middle of his second baseball outing for military service.

Plundering a Marine Corps jet, Williams was the wingman of the future astronaut and American senator John Glenn. But on February 19, 1953, his Grumman F9F Panther was hit by anti-aircraft fire.

With his jet on fire and the radio off, Williams initially started flying in the wrong direction. But, thanks to Lieutenant Larry Hawkins, who flew alongside and communicated using hand signals, Williams was able to sail back to the United States base.

It landed at more than 200 miles an hour and jumped off the plane before it caught fire.

“I had holes in the entire plane and was fulfilling all the prayers that people say for me because I was very lucky,” Williams later wrote in a letter home. “My plane was burning like hell when I crashed. Everyone here is calling me lucky. “
