Governor Cuomo allowed restaurants to reopen indoor meals at 25% capacity on Friday, and some Upper West Side restaurants started serving inland again.
Lincoln Square Business Improvement District has published a list of restaurants that have either reopened or plan to do so soon. Some restaurants said they are delaying the reopening in case Cuomo reverses the course, or because the 25% opening is not worth the cost.
The decision was also met with some criticism, as some public health experts say that indoor dining involves many risks at a time when the pandemic continues to spread. “We could have offered massive financial aid to help distressed restaurants, ”wrote adviser Mark Levine in Twitter. “Instead, we are allowing them to reopen indoor meals today – at a time when there are 4-5,000 cases / day in New York, 3,700 hospitalized and the growing number of variants here. The next few weeks will be dangerous. “
