Weezer shared his new song “All My Favorite Songs,” the first single from the band’s new surprise album Ok human, released on January 29. In the video that accompanies Colin Read, the band crosses the line between the virtual world and reality.
The video opens with Rivers Cuomo, who is distracted from scrolling the phone, when he should be recording a track in the studio with the band. Meanwhile, in another scene, a teenager looks dejected while looking at the computer’s feed. Things change for the better when the teenager connects with a girl on the screen and their virtual date turns into a real-life date when he pulls her through the computer. They eventually meet at a studio where Weezer is recording “All My Favorite Songs”.
“All of my favorite songs are slow and sad / All of my favorite people drive me crazy”, Cuomo sings while playing the piano on the track with an orchestra float. “Everything that is so good is bad, bad, bad / All of my favorite songs are slow and sad / I don’t know what’s wrong with me.” However, when the teenager tries to talk to Cuomo later, the singer is very absorbed in the screen of his cell phone and the human connection that seemed to have been restored seems to have been lost.
