Weekend Update hosts mock Senator Ted Cruz after he ‘left Texas’ for a trip to Cancun

“Saturday Night Live” took aim at Ted Cruz on his now infamous trip to Cancún during the “Weekend Update” segment.

The show previously took the hay out of the situation during this week’s open draft that mocked the Texas senator for taking a vacation while the people of his state face freezing temperatures, power outages and a lack of heat and other basic resources.

Cruz, R-Texas, told Sean Hannity that he had lost power at his home for two days before deciding to travel and admitted that he started “changing his mind almost immediately” after boarding his flight. Still, Weekend Update presenters Colin Jost and Michael Che questioned Cruz almost immediately on Saturday during the skit show parody news segment.

“Well, if you hate Ted Cruz, this has been a really fun week,” Jost started. “And if you like Ted Cruz, then you are Ted Cruz.”

The host continued to scoff at a statement that Cruz issued explaining that he simply flew to Mexico to spend the night with his daughters on a trip with friends in order to be a “good father”.

“Cruz initially released a statement saying that he only went on vacation because his daughters forced him to go and if you think it was bad to throw them under the bus, Cruz would like you to know that this statement was his wife’s idea,” added Jost. . “I love it, after he left Texas, he came back with a Texas flag mask as if nothing had happened. It’s like Jared and Ivanka walking down 5th Avenue in” I Love New York “T-shirts.”

Che took aim at the Texas senator then, adding: “Cruz would have returned from Mexico earlier, but it took him about 40 minutes to get out of the network.”

He continued: Many Texans are left without heating or clean water after the pipes freeze in the extreme cold. “Boy, that kind of thing would never happen in New York,” said people who never lived on the projects. “

Apparently leaving the topic Cruz, Jost briefly explained the immigration plan recently released by President Joe Biden, which would give millions of undocumented migrants an eight-year path to citizenship.

“I don’t know if it’s a good idea,” said Jost as he put a picture of Cruz back on the screen. “I mean, have you seen people coming from Mexico these days?”

“Andrew Cuomo, who looks like all the Goodfellas at the same time, hopes to legalize marijuana next month,” explained Che later in the segment. “Cuomo hopes that marijuana will provide New Yorkers with a safe and effective way to forget things about the asylum.”
