Weekend snowstorm: what to expect

DENVER – A week after a record snowstorm that poured 27.1 inches of snow into Denver, the state is preparing for another round of snow.

Although this storm is not expected to be so severe, travel can be affected, especially in the I-70 mountain corridor on Sunday.

The storm will produce blows of snow in the mountains of the north and the center, from Saturday afternoon to Sunday night.

Light snow showers are expected to occur at the foot of the mountains on Sunday, with snow on the mountains and the Palmer division.

The strongest snowfall is expected for Sunday night until midnight, with ten to twenty centimeters along the I-70 mountain corridor east of the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial tunnel and six to ten centimeters along corridor I -25 at Monument Hill. The Denver metropolitan area was able to see five to twenty centimeters of accumulations on Sunday night.

Sunday’s high temperatures will be in the mid-teens and 20 degrees in the mountains, 30 in the foothills and 40 in the plains. Expect some icy roads for the ride on Monday morning.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is advising drivers to plan ahead and avoid driving in the mountains on Sunday nights and Monday mornings for the foothills and Front Range.
