Wednesday’s live-action series Addams, directed by Tim Burton, hits Netflix

Wednesday Addams is getting his own Netflix series.

On a Twitter announcement on WednesdayNetflix announced that a new live action series based on Wednesday Addams will soon arrive on the streaming platform. The series will be directed by Tim Burton, who will make his television directorial debut.

“Tim Burton is bringing Wednesday Addams to Netflix in a series of live action on adulthood!” Netflix wrote in your ad. “Burton will also make his TV directorial debut in the investigator and supernaturally infused mystery that follows on Wednesday as a student at Nevermore Academy.”

Attached was a photo of the show’s official poster, which shows a silhouette of the iconic Wednesday playing the contrabass with a remarkable string. Due to the peculiar ways of Wednesday, she is seen playing the instrument with a knife instead of the usual bow.

Teddy Biaselli, director of the original Netflix series, gave more information about the next series in an announcement made on the Netflix website.

“The next series of eight episodes is an investigative mystery, supernaturally infused, charting Wednesday’s years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy,” noted Biaselli. “Wednesday’s attempts to master his emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous wave of murders that terrified the local city and solve the supernatural mystery that enveloped his parents 25 years ago – all while navigating his complicated new relationships with the stranger and diverse student body. “

The series will be written by Smallville co-creators, Al Gough and Miles Millar. Biaselli expressed enthusiasm for the future collaboration between the co-creators of Smallville and Burton.

“When we first heard the pitch of Al Gough and Miles Millar for the first time on Wednesday, we were hit, like an arrow from a beast, straight into our hearts,” said Biaselli. “They got the tone, the spirit and the characters right, but they gave us a new path to this story.”

“We then got the call that visionary director and longtime fan of the Addams Family, Tim Burton, wanted to make his television director debut with this series,” he added. “Tim has a history of telling exciting stories about social outsiders like Edward Scissorhands, Lydia Deitz and Batman. And now he brings his unique vision to Wednesday and his scary colleagues at Nevermore Academy.”

No official release date has been announced.
