A winter storm alert has been issued for parts of New Jersey. A winter weather report was issued for New York City, Long Island and other areas close to the city.
Snow should start at dawn or just before Thursday.
Moderate to heavy snow is expected during the first part of the storm until noon on Thursday. Snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour are possible.
There is potential for a difficult morning trip with a lot of snow on Thursday morning.

The best chance for 6 inches of snow or more is in the interior of New Jersey. Widespread distribution of 5 to 9 inches is expected across the Tri-State.
It is anticipated that the heaviest snow will not travel through the north of the city and a mixture of ice should reduce the accumulations further south.
New York City has received almost twice its normal seasonal snowfall so far, at almost 33.8 inches, compared to the normal 17.1 inches from December 1 through February 17.
