Weather CT: The next chance for a snowstorm comes in our forecast

CONNECTICUT – After a quiet time in early 2021, things are about to get more interesting for Connecticut. The state saw a slight accumulation of snow on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, with most places receiving a few inches of snow and some receiving even ten centimeters.

A more powerful storm will come to see on Thursday and will completely miss Connecticut, but our next snowstorm is already coming up in the forecast.

The National Weather Service said a snowstorm could affect Connecticut as early as Sunday night, although it is possible that the “coastal storm” will arrive later on Monday as well. Clearly, a storm several days from Connecticut will evolve and many things will change.

And before we worry about the chance of more accumulated snow, we will see the intense cold move on Friday and Saturday.

“Friday and Saturday will be one of the coldest 2-day periods of winter so far, with temperatures on both days not exceeding 20,” wrote the National Meteorological Service in its discussion of meteorologists. “Nightly lows fall in single digits and teenagers.”

Connecticut can also see strong gusts on Thursday and Friday nights, possibly up to 40 mph at times.

More snow?

Meteorologists say a coastal storm could affect Connecticut on Sunday or Monday and temperatures should be cool enough to withstand all snow, especially in the beginning, before there can be a shift to mixed precipitation on the immediate coast.

One weather model shows snow arriving in Connecticut on Sunday afternoon / evening, while another model says there will be no rainfall here until Monday night.

“In general, this will be a system that will have to be observed for perhaps some impacts of the winter climate, but there is low confidence and high uncertainty regarding the intensity and (precipitation) type for the longevity / duration of the potential event,” the service meteorological said.

Fox 61 chief meteorologist Rachel Frank and NBC Connecticut chief meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan shared some initial details about the potential next storm.
