On Friday, on ABC’s “Good Morning America” program, the White House’s chief medical consultant, Dr. Anthony Fauci, discussed wearing the mask while local governments across the country eased restrictions due to improved numbers in the coronavirus.
Fauci emphasized the importance of wearing masks at this point, but said that the time of wearing the mask should not be “measured in years”. However, he advised that “we will wear masks for several, several months”.
“There will still be an important need to wear masks. I think we still need to do that, ”said Fauci while pushing for a safe and gradual reopening of the country.
“When you say you need masks, do you mean for a while – in the foreseeable future – a year, two years, three years?” host George Stephanopoulos asked.
“I’m not sure if this is measured in years, George, but I think until we reach the level of the virus at such a low level in the community, and I said a projection – and it’s just a projection – that, I hope, for the time we vaccinate all people, say 70-85% of people vaccinated, the level of viruses in the community can be so low that you can start to back off a bit on strict public health measures, ”he replied. “You don’t want to do it all at once, but I think we’ll be wearing masks for several, several months in the future.”
