Resident Evil Village is certainly one of the most anticipated game releases of 2021. In our recent community survey, the eight mainline Resident Evil game ranked fifth, with 10% of the overall votes in the category.
Much has been said about Lady Dimitrescu, one of Ethan Winters’ antagonists in the game. His vampire appearance and set of powers seems totally new to Resident Evil, but in an interview published in the latest Playstation Official Magazine (March 2021, issue 185), CAPCOM producer Peter Fabiano explained that everything in Resident Evil Village will eventually fall into place in the franchise tradition.
Dimitrescu and his three daughters remember what you can expect from the vampire tradition. We are not saying that they are, but there is certainly something that seems supernatural about what is happening.
We don’t want to spoil the story too much, but what I can say is that all creatures fit together
within the context of the Resident Evil world. We can guarantee that Resident Evil Village takes into account the general world and the history of the series.
Fabiano then said that the team believes they are putting the finishing touches on what will be the ‘best survival horror game’ ever released with Resident Evil Village.
Designing and planning was something that has been on the minds of our developers since the end of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard. The team got really attached to Ethan as a character, so we knew we wanted to continue his story arc. We wanted players to continue to experience the game through the eyes of protagonist Ethan Winters. This is a continuation of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard after all.
It really helped to keep our vision on target. And as we are constantly sharing information between the Resident Evil teams, it really helped us to make what we consider the best survival horror game to date.
Last but not least, Fabiano said that Resident Evil Village received significant inspiration from Resident Evil 4, the installment in the series with the highest critical score (96 on Metacritic).
You will notice that we are inspired a lot by Resident Evil 4. The team worked hard to create a truly authentic feeling. There are many surprises to keep you alert; players will find a balance between combat, exploration and puzzle solving.
Resident Evil Village will be released on May 7 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S | X.
