We are not opposed to this Reddit bot that turns arguments into Ace Attorney videos

Someone had to do this: there is now a bot that turns Reddit arguments into scenes from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, complete with music and the iconic “OBJECTION!” intercuts. It is from these moments that he takes his name: objection-bot.

Users can invoke the bot by typing “! Objection-bot ”on a topic that would function as an Ace Attorney’s court scene, and the bot will generate a video based on the posts. It’s like shouting “superstar!” but on Reddit. You can see an excellent Cyberpunk 2077-example listed below:

The genius behind the bot is Reddit user oppai_suika, who was kind enough to post the source code. They also noted in a comment that fighters number one and two were designated as Phoenix and Edgeworth, respectively, and everyone else was assigned a character at random. Other characters from the series also appear, inciting the other posters or arriving with scenes too hot to handle.

The bot’s first post was four days ago, but has been very busy ever since. There is already a dedicated subreddit, r / Objectionbotbattles, for users to post the best results from the bot. One that made me laugh out loud recreates the experience of being stuck in a chain of e-mail responses to everyone.

The bot supports only certain subreddits, but includes all of the most important: r / politicalcompassmemes, r / vegan, r / MechanicalKeyboards and r / JoeRogan. (In all seriousness, it is a reasonably long list.) Obviously, he also supports r / aceattorney and was also called upon to dramatize arguments about his source material (based on this topic).

Sometimes Reddit’s arguments can seem like court dramas, with people arguing about technical details, intentions and word definitions. This experience has now been digitized with some of our favorite video game lawyers and is truly glorious.
