Wayne Ellington shoots Klay, Draymond for Rodney McGruder’s comments

Rodney McGruder’s decision to go to the Warriors’ bench after last night’s defeat at the Chase Center and trade with Juan Toscano-Anderson drew significant criticism from Klay Thompson and Draymond Green after the game.

Detroit Pistons playmaker Wayne Ellington, whom McGruder was apparently defending when walking to the Warriors’ bench after the game, had some strong words for Thompson and Green during a media availability on Sunday morning.

“First of all, I think it is not very professional and it is definitely not elegant for someone to attack Rodney’s professional career the way he was attacked,” Ellington told reporters on Sunday (h / t Detroit News / Rod Beard).

“To be honest, the guy over there, Juan, started it all. Rod is a respectable man, like me, and I felt like he took offense at whatever the guy was saying to me in the first part.

“For Draymond to sit there and say all that crazy stuff behind a microphone, I think this is a fake tough guy thing, to be honest with you.”

After McGruder came to the Warriors’ bench and had a brief conversation with Toscano-Anderson before being taken by the team members, Klay had the perfect answer during transmission.

Draymond doubled up at his post-game press conference, questioning why McGruder was being the “tough guy” for the Pistons and saying something to the bank after the game.

Following Ellington’s response, Green will likely have his own replica the next time the Warriors make it available for comment.
