When late shipments from Michigan arrive, Wayne County will focus on putting them in the arms of people 65 and older, making them more accessible.

The winter storm delayed things for Wayne County, but as the doses arrive, they commit to taking them to the elderly, targeting eight different communities in which they live.

These communities are: Canton, Plymouth, Highland Park, Hamtramck, Inkster, Melvindale, Romulus and Wayne. * Disclaimer: You must be a resident of the city you call to make an appointment *

As of Monday, Wayne County residents aged 65 and over can call one of eight community centers or the elderly. The county health department is scheduled to administer another 13,000 doses next week, which will be one of the largest shipments to date, although not as large as the shipments Detroit has received.

Last week, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced the extension of the vaccine’s eligibility to all Detroit residents age 60 and older with chronic medical conditions – offering $ 2 trips to the TCF Center for those in need.

It’s a frightening reality – Wayne County hopes to bring peace of mind and easier access for people over 65 who bring vaccines to neighborhoods. .

More senior vaccination sites will be announced as more vaccines become available. In all, Wayne County Public Health and local health systems have provided more than 181,596 doses to Wayne County residents since the vaccine became available in December.
