Water boiling notice in effect for approximately 100,000 Fort Worth residents – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Approximately 100,000 residents of northern Fort Worth are being urged to boil their water before consumption, after a power outage at a water treatment plant, the city says.

The boiling water warning applies primarily to people living north of Interstate Loop 820, close to Interstate 35W, US Highway 287 and Eagle Mountain Lake. The city said it expects the warning to remain in effect until at least noon on Wednesday.

The announcement comes after the Eagle Mountain water plant and the raw water pumping station on Block 6800 on Bowman Roberts Road lost power on Monday afternoon, according to the city of Fort Worth. The plant underwent several outages on Monday.

Much of Texas experienced power cuts on Monday due to winter weather across the state.

The city said water from an elevated tank to the north was drained, leaving many customers without water. As soon as the water pressure is restored, those without water will have access again, but will be urged to boil it before using.

The boiling water warning is to ensure the destruction of harmful bacteria for drinking, cooking and making ice. The city said the water should be “boiled continuously” for two minutes before being used.

Residents will be notified as soon as the boiling water warning is no longer in effect.
