The wait is finally over. The long-awaited Ashanti and Keyshia Cole Verzuz the battle is going on now.

Tonight’s event, which marks the fourth showdown led by women in the popular series, was announced nearly two months ago, after months of rumors and growing speculation. Cole suggested that she was open to a direct confrontation with Ashanti in May, when she shared an Instagram post detailing their respective successes. She also made a point of scoring Verzuz co-creators Swizz Beatz and Timbaland in the post, asking, “Is that accurate?”

As you can see in Cole’s post, she and Ashanti are very equal when it comes to hitting. Cole blessed fans with tracks like “Last Night” with Diddy, “I Should Have Cheated”, “Trust” with Monica and “I Change My Mind” with Kanye West. Ashanti, on the other hand, delivered a series of aughtie classics, including “Foolish”, “Rain on Me”, “Mesmerize” with Ja Rule and “What’s Luv” with Fat Joe.

The Cole vs. Clash Ashanti was subsequently scheduled for December 12, but just hours before the scheduled start, Verzuz announced that he would postpone the event due to Ashanti’s COVID-19 diagnosis.

“We can’t put anyone at risk in the process,” said a post on Verzuz’s Instagram page. “The first time it hit us so close to showtime. We apologize to our incredible audience! Stay right, Ashanti 💜🖤💚 Wear a mask, stay inside and take COVID-19 seriously. It’s really affecting our community.”

O Verzuz the battle was then postponed to 9 January; however, the organizers decided to postpone it again in the wake of the growing COVID-19 cases, as well as the deadly riots in the United States Capitol.

In the weeks leading up to tonight Verzuz, the R&B legends emphasized that it would be more a positive and commemorative event than a competitive one. But you already know that your respective fans will be scoring points.
